About the Vitalis Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl is an annual college football game that is played usually at the end of December in El Paso, Texas. The game was called the John Hancock Bowl from 1989 to 1993. Games are played at Sun Bowl Stadium. The game is currently sponsored by Vitalis and is called the Vitalis Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl was also the home to PDL team the El Paso Patriots before they moved to Dudley Field, and currently play at Patriot Stadium. The game usually features a team from the Big 10 & a team from the Pac-10 conferences.
Sun Bowl Stadium is an on campus football stadium at UTEP. The stadium seats 52,000 fans. Astroplay is the field surface since 2001.It was opened in 1963. The land the stadium seats on was originally donated by the university to the city of El Paso, who built the stadium for the school and Sun Bowl game. The school retook control of the land and stadium in 2001. For a short time before moving to Dudley Field, it was the home to PDL franchise, the El Paso Patriots.
